Cornwal Wave Classic 2015

Many thanks to Ian Manual Ross, the team down at RB sails and the BWA for another epic event down in Cornwall at the Cornwall wave classic 2015.

The weekend started out with the pro fleet on the Friday, kicking off with pumping surf and building winds. It was a great comp to watch with challenging conditions for the riders who could have done with a few more knots of wind in the big swell. Needless to say they powered through, made it look easy and put on a great show!

Congratulations to Ross Williams who came out on top after the Single eliminations with Jamie Hancock in second place, Adam Lewis in third and Steve Thorpe in fourth.

The wind didn’t come through for the later part of the weekend but the sun was shining, the swell was pumping and the BWA and RB sails teamed together to make it yet another memorable event.

A huge thanks to Mark Hosegood and the pros who offered clinics and invaluable advice in the morning. They provided some very beneficial sessions on competition, wave riding and getting the most out of your kit. They were also on hand all weekend offering tips and support.

For the afternoon on Saturday we moved over to Marizion where the BWA, RB sails and Sam Ross put on a great SUP competition for the youth fleet. They were all great candidates and fully embraced the competition spirit- definitely names to watch out for in the future!

With the heats drawn out, the lights set up and the judges ready and raring to go it was a strong introduction for the youths to the excitement of competition and heat tactics. Sam Ross was on hand – a top mentor for the fleet getting involved with the action and giving valuable tips and techniques, which added to, the great experience for all involved. Everybody was stoked to see the noticeable improvement and progression of the riders throughout the heats.

Well done to Jack Petit who came in first place nailing it on the last wave in the final, James Arnold- Smith in 2nd, Lucas Meldrum in 3rd and Jenna Petit in 4th. All the riders gave an exceptional performance including Sam Hall, Alex Hudson, Kyle Gould, Scott Stallman, Joe Trinder and Jeremy Whale.

For the final day the swell was really pumping and 12 competitors set out into the surf for a combined sup, surf comp. It was a great fun comp with all the fleets Pros, Ams, Masters and youths mixed together and everybody was on top form.

The competition took place in the format of two 25-minute heats and one 25-minute final so a real test of stamina for the riders involved!

Well done to Bubble on JP who won the final, Jack Petit taking 2nd and Sam Ross on a red inflatable and Warren Rowe on Starboard who came joint 3rd. A special mention to 14-year-old Jenna Petit who was awarded for the biggest take off and showing some exceptional skill in the swell throughout the weekend.
