Taking the Super Sport out in marginal winds initially, it feels buoyant and directionally stable, releasing in an instant, as soon as power is delivered. With easily the widest tail in the test, the straps are outboard yet easy to locate, combining with the deckpads to feel comfortable underfoot, whilst providing plenty of direct feedback. Acceleration is certainly impressive, the Super Sport feeling lively and flighty underfoot, sitting high on the water’s surface. And with its wide tail and large fin, it can be used to cover great distances, driving positively off the back foot to point high or glide through lulls. As the wind increases, we found ourselves pushing harder to see whether a higher top speed can be reached, but try to force the issue and the fin tends to spin-out and release at times. Instead, relax and let the board do the work for you, or alternatively, change to a smaller fin. In choppy, turbulent seas the high riding stance of the JP and the fin’s lift are also noticeable – taking a strong arm to keep both connected and under control. The fin change again played its part here, settling the board and helping to pin it down. Fast and lively, with a committed riding style the JP provides plenty of performance in return, feeling compact and responsive throughout. In transition, it again feels large through the tail, yet drive into the turn confidently and its thin rails bite and grip superbly. It thrives on being commanded by an assertive riding style and can really pivot well through the tail, the width in the rear keeping speed well for a consistent planing exit. And one more point worthy of note – with its wide tail and compact outline, the Super Sport also has genuine wind foiling potential, expanding its light wind credentials yet further.
