They say great things come in small packages, and we’ve got the proof right here. First of all, the new HERO camera weighs just 86 grams but captures at an incredible 4K resolution. Making it 4K’ing: tiny, rugged, versatile, and super simple to use. And did we mention it’s also 4K’ing affordable, too? It comes in at just £199, but you’ll be absolutely amazed by what it can do and the high-quality videos you can create. So, here’s everything you need to know about this short king. At 56.6mm wide, by 47.7mm tall, and 29.4mm deep, HERO comes in at roughly 35% less volume and 46% less mass than our flagship HERO13 Black. That adds up to a camera you can barely feel when you’re wearing it, holding it or storing it in your pocket. Despite the tiny stature, you still get a full-color touchscreen on the back for framing your shots and reviewing your footage.
The camera has low-profile built-in mounting fingers on the bottom, which makes it compatible with the massive array of GoPro mounts sold everywhere to setup hands-free capture. It’s waterproof to 16 feet (5 meters) deep, and its built-in battery is equipped with our Enduro Battery technology, which means it’ll keep on rolling even in extreme cold. It also features a replaceable Gorilla Glass lens, so if yours ever gets a scratch you can quickly swap it out while your camera lives on to fight another day.
This is our easiest-to-use camera ever with three modes that you simply swipe (or tap the mode button) to switch between. Making it easy to get the shot, whether your cruising through a new town, sprinting to the ocean or chasing your little ones down a hill (rain, snow or shine)!
Here are the three modes you need to know about and what to use them for.
- Video Mode: The default video mode is a gorgeous 4K30, which means you can put that footage right on a 70” 4K TV and it’ll look amazing, with sharp details and vivid colors. This is the mode we’d recommend for capturing day-today antics, big landscapes, travel video, vlogging … really anything you want to look as cinematic as possible.
- Slo-Mo Mode: When you’re moving fast or shooting something that’s fast-moving, bend time by slowing down the world around you. It’s crazy what details will emerge! This mode changes the resolution to 2.7K, and more importantly, it increases the number of frames captured per second to 60—2X as many as the regular video mode. You’ll capture detail-rich resolution that you can slow down by 50% in the Quick app for buttery smooth slow motion.
- Photo Mode: Freeze time with a crisp 12MP quality photo. All photos are captured in a 4:3 aspect ratio bringing a more POV-friendly feel and capturing more in the frame.
